PhD in Polymeric Nanostructures and Multispecies Biofilms for Chronic Wound Infection (HEAL4WARD MSCA-DN)

HEAL4WARD is recruiting a motivated PhD candidate for DC8: “Involvement of polymeric nanostructures in the modulation of multispecies biofilms formed on chronic wounds” . The position is based at Sapienza University of Rome and is supervised by Iolanda Francolini , Alessandra Del Giudice , and Luciano Galantini . The project sits at the interface of materials science , chemistry , microbiology , nanoscience , and biomedical engineering . It investigates how natural and synthetic nanostructures interact with complex multispecies biofilms in chronic wounds, with the goal of understanding how physico-chemical properties influence biofilm formation, structure, and resistance. The broader HEAL4WARD Doctoral Network focuses on advanced wound infection care and rapid diagnosis, combining nanomaterials, antimicrobial peptidomimetics, 3D printing, sensors, and AI. This is a fully funded MSCA doctoral position with a competitive salary, mobility allowance, and additional benefits. The doctoral project lasts 36 months and includes international secondments in Spain, the UK, and Greece , offering strong interdisciplinary and international training. Eligible applicants should have a background in Nanoscience, Materials Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field . The application deadline is 30 June 2026 . Interested candidates should review the project information and application instructions on the HEAL4WARD website.
