[Fully funded for UK, EU, and International applicants: full University fees, research training budget, and a tax-free stipend of £20,780 (UKRI rate for 2025/26).] PhD Studentship – From Microdrops to Forecasts: Multiscale Modelling of Clouds at the University of Warwick offers an exciting opportunity to explore the fundamental physics of cloud microdroplets and their impact on weather and climate prediction. Supervised by Professor James Sprittles, this project aims to bridge the gap between microscopic droplet interactions and large-scale atmospheric phenomena using advanced mathematical and computational modelling techniques. The research will focus on simulating droplet collisions in turbulent clouds, investigating how these micro-interactions influence rainfall formation and climate models. You will employ high-fidelity simulations and collaborate with partners such as the Met Office to integrate your findings into operational weather and climate forecasting tools. This project is ideal for students passionate about applied mathematics, computational physics, and making a tangible impact on real-world environmental challenges. This studentship is part of the HetSys Centre for Doctoral Training, an interdisciplinary programme at Warwick that unites science, engineering, and mathematics to address global challenges. HetSys provides a collaborative and supportive environment, offering training across physics, engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics. Students benefit from a vibrant research community, industry partnerships, and a curriculum designed to develop versatile skills for careers in academia, research, and technology. Funding: The position is fully funded for UK, EU, and International applicants. The award covers full University fees, a research training budget, and a tax-free stipend of £20,780 per year (UKRI rate for 2025/26), equivalent to the national living wage. Eligibility: Applicants should have a strong background in physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Experience or interest in computational modelling, applied mathematics, or data science is desirable. A first or upper second class undergraduate degree (or equivalent) is typically required. English language proficiency must meet University of Warwick standards. Application Process: Applications should be submitted via the HetSys Centre for Doctoral Training website. Prepare your academic transcripts, CV, and a statement of interest. The deadline for applications is 28 January 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the HetSys projects page .
