PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Advanced Materials and Clean Energy at Brock University (Physics)

The Department of Physics at Brock University, led by Assistant Professor Jasneet Kaur, is inviting applications for the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards for both PhD and postdoctoral positions. This prestigious program, funded by the Government of Canada, aims to attract top international and Canadian researchers living abroad to contribute to priority research areas, including advanced materials and clean technology. Research in the Kaur Group focuses on the synthesis and characterization of novel nanostructured materials, with a particular emphasis on two-dimensional (2D) materials such as MXenes and heterostructures. The group explores advanced materials for energy storage, harvesting, and conversion devices, including batteries, supercapacitors, and water electrolysers for clean hydrogen production. Students and postdocs will gain hands-on experience in materials physics, nanostructure engineering, electrochemistry, and advanced spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards provide significant financial support: $40,000 per year for three years for doctoral students and $70,000 per year for two years for postdoctoral researchers. The program is open to international applicants and Canadians living abroad, with a focus on research in clean technology, advanced materials, and related fields. Nomination packages are due in January 2026, and the selection process is competitive, emphasizing research excellence and alignment with the program's priority areas. Applicants should have a strong background in physics, materials science, chemistry, or engineering. For PhD positions, a relevant master's degree is required; for postdoctoral positions, a completed PhD in a related field is necessary. Experience with synthesis and characterization of advanced materials, especially 2D materials, is highly desirable. English language proficiency is required as per Brock University standards.
