Postdoctoral Researcher in Cyber-Physical Security and Stability of Hyperscale Data Centers in Inverter-Dominated Power Grids

Lehigh University’s Center for Advancing Community Electrification Solutions (ACES) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher on a multidisciplinary project focused on the stability and cyber-physical security of hyperscale data centers in future inverter-dominated power grids . The project spans Electrical and Computer Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lehigh University, with PIs including Javad Khazaei , Shalinee Kishore , and Faegheh “Farrah” Moazeni . The research is centered on the interaction between gigawatt-scale data centers and modern power grids with high penetration of inverter-based resources (IBRs). The successful candidate will work on dynamic modeling , stability analysis , and control of coupled data center–grid systems, with an emphasis on developing theoretical frameworks, identifying stability boundaries, and designing predictive mitigation strategies under both normal and adversarial cyber-physical conditions. A notable feature of the role is collaboration with the Siemens Research and Development team , offering exposure to industrial-scale inverter technologies and opportunities to translate theory into practice. Eligibility highlights: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Control, Applied Mathematics, or a related field (completed or near completion); strong publication record; expertise in power system dynamics, inverter-based resources, microgrid modeling, or nonlinear control; solid background in dynamical systems, optimization, or control theory; and proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific computing tools.
