PhD Opening in Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction and Catalysis Engineering at ETH Zurich

ETH Zurich is advertising a PhD opening in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction funded by NCCR Catalysis . The position is hosted in the Advanced Catalysis Engineering group in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences (D-CHAB) and will contribute to accelerating electrocatalytic CO2 reduction toward a robust technology. The project uses a multiscale approach that integrates catalyst design , advanced characterization , reaction engineering , and data science . A key research focus is the one-step conversion of CO2 into complex products with high environmental and economic value. The successful candidate will work in the National Electrocatalysis Laboratory and benefit from state-of-the-art high-throughput facilities for catalyst evaluation under industrially relevant conditions. The position offers close collaboration with leading researchers across the NCCR Catalysis network and with international groups. The preferred start date is 1 January 2027 (or earlier), and the application deadline is 2026-09-01 . Applicants should have a strong background in catalysis , electrochemistry , chemical engineering , or related fields. Experience in CO2 electroreduction is an advantage, but outstanding candidates from adjacent areas will also be considered. To apply, send a CV with the contact details of two references and a motivation letter to [email protected] .
