The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adjunct) position in the Department of Applied Spectroscopy (NZ53), Division of Interdisciplinary Research. This full-time, fixed-term position (up to 33 months) focuses on advanced research in X-ray spectroscopy, data analysis, and experimental/theoretical physics. The successful candidate will participate in research involving X-ray radiation at synchrotron facilities and X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs), including experiment preparation, execution, and optimization of measurement setups, as well as contributing to research infrastructure upgrades. Key responsibilities include developing and refining experimental data analysis methods, implementing theoretical models, and disseminating research results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at seminars and international conferences. The postdoc will also be expected to apply for external research funding. Applicants must hold a PhD in physical sciences or related disciplines (chemistry, physical chemistry, or materials science), demonstrate scientific achievements through publications, and have experience with X-ray techniques, research equipment, and data analysis. Teamwork skills and excellent English proficiency are required. Experience with synchrotron/XFEL experiments and programming knowledge are advantageous. Candidates must contact Dr hab. Joanna Czapla-Masztafiak, prof. IFJ PAN, early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to application. Required documents are detailed in the official recruitment terms. The position offers a competitive monthly gross salary (PLN 7,250 for PhD, PLN 8,050 for habilitation), with possible additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support from the Company Social Benefits Fund. There are no teaching obligations, and the role provides access to state-of-the-art research facilities, computing infrastructure, and opportunities for collaboration with leading experts and institutes. Annual leave of 36 days is included. Applications (preferably as a single PDF, .zip, or .rar file) should be sent by email to [email protected] by May 4th, 2026, with the subject 'Adiunkt/post-doc/AP-I-NZ53/26'. Referees must send recommendations directly to the same address by the deadline. Interviews will be held June 9–11, 2026, and candidates will be notified by May 20, 2026. The final decision will be made by the IFJ PAN Director. For further details, consult the official recruitment terms and the department website.
