About

Jonathan Henshaw is a Junior Professor at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His research focuses on coevolutionary models, sexual selection, and evolutionary trade-offs, as evidenced by his recent publications. Notable topics include the interactions among traits, the dynamics of honest and dishonest signals, and the implications of early-life survival on body size selection. He aims to deepen the understanding of organismal performance measures guiding adaptive evolution.

Postdoctoral position in Evolutionary Theory at the University of Freiburg (Germany) in the Henshaw lab . The group is primarily theoretical and works on evolutionary biology with a particular focus on the evolution of animal behaviour. The successful candidate will develop individual-based simulations and/or mathematical models to study evolutionary questions, using approaches such as evolutionary game theory , adaptive dynamics , and quantitative genetics . The lab emphasizes a supportive and inclusive environment and offers considerable freedom to shape project direction within these broad themes. This is a full-time postdoc appointment for 3 years with the possibility of extension. The salary is set according to TV-L E13 . The role includes a teaching requirement of 4 face-to-face hours per week during the semester, with opportunities to supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students. Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in biology, mathematics, or another relevant discipline (near-completion candidates may apply, but the PhD must be awarded before the start date). Strong theoretical background, strong coding skills (R, Python, Julia, or Mathematica), an excellent publication record, and excellent English are required. Application deadline: 7 September 2026 .
