Precision diagnostics for developmental disorders

The University of Oulu in Finland is recruiting 1–3 doctoral and/or postdoctoral researchers for the VR2Real Project, focused on precision diagnostics for developmental disorders such as ADHD, autism, and learning disorders. The research is based in the Unit of Psychology, Faculty of Education and Psychology, and involves developing and applying new technologies (mixed reality, mobile EEG, biosensing, remote cognitive testing) to study neurodevelopmental disorders, with the aim of clinical validation and translation to healthcare. The project objectives include differentiating clinical conditions using computational methods, studying attention deficits in real-world contexts (home, school, social interaction), discovering neural mechanisms underlying attention deficits, and characterizing developmental trajectories. Responsibilities include experiment design and implementation, data collection (behavioral and neurophysiological), study coordination, data analysis, and reporting findings. The multidisciplinary team offers a supportive environment, wellness benefits, international research setting, work-life balance, and relocation support. Applicants must have a relevant degree (Master's for PhD, PhD for postdoc) in psychology, neuroscience, medicine, engineering, computer science, or related fields, with a background in cognitive psychology/neuroscience/behavioral methods, fluent English, and IT/communication skills. Experience in mixed reality, online behavioral testing, computational methods, or naturalistic neuroscience is valued. The positions are fixed-term (2–3 years), with salaries of €2500–2900/month for doctoral researchers and €3500–4500/month for postdocs. Applications are due by October 2, 2025, via the University of Oulu recruitment system, including cover letter, CV, certificates/diplomas, publications list, and contact info for two referees. For inquiries, contact Prof. Juha Salmitaival ([email protected]).
