Fully Funded PhD Positions in Pavement and Transportation Engineering at Carleton University

The Advanced Road and Transportation Engineering Laboratory (ARTEL) at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, is offering two fully funded PhD positions in Pavement and Transportation Engineering. ARTEL is a collaborative research group focused on advancing the field of road transportation, with a particular emphasis on developing safe, sustainable, and climate-resilient roads in Canada. The group is engaged in high-impact research supported by multiple Canadian and international grants. PhD students will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge topics such as climate change impacts on transportation infrastructure and pavement systems, pavement data science, advanced analytics, machine learning modeling, life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle cost analysis (LCCA), self-healing and sustainable paving materials, and sustainable road maintenance and asset management. The research aims to enhance pavement performance, sustainability, and management systems, contributing to the economic advancement and safety of Canada's extensive road network. Eligibility requires a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, a strong academic background, and a demonstrated interest in transportation or pavement engineering. Non-native English speakers must provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 90 with at least 23 in writing, or IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.5 in writing and minimum 6.0 in each band). The positions are fully funded, covering tuition and providing a stipend, with flexible start dates in Summer or Fall 2026 or as mutually agreed. Interested candidates should email Prof. Kamal Hossain at [email protected] with a detailed CV, academic transcripts, and proof of English proficiency if applicable. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. For more information about ARTEL and ongoing research projects, visit ARTEL's website .
