Postdoc in Digital Democracy and Computational Social Science at University of Zurich

The Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in the research group of Assistant Professor Karsten Donnay, starting September 1, 2026. This position is focused on digital democracy, with a particular emphasis on the digital transformation of politics and computational social science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue independent research in these areas, contribute to teaching in digital democracy, political behavior, and political communication, and participate in the vibrant research community at UZH. The research group is part of the UZH Digital Society Initiative, the university’s competence center on digitalization, providing an excellent environment for interdisciplinary collaboration. The position includes teaching responsibilities (1-2 courses per semester), advising students, and some administrative tasks. Collaboration in ongoing research projects is encouraged. Applicants should hold a PhD in political science, computational social science, or a closely related discipline, and possess strong quantitative and computational skills. Interest in political behavior, political communication, and the consequences of digitalization for politics is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently and in teams, have a strong command of English, and exhibit creativity and curiosity. The position offers guaranteed funding for two years at 80% FTE, with a gross annual salary of approximately 82,536 CHF, and the possibility of extension depending on available funds. The department provides financial and academic support, and the successful candidate will join a leading European political science department with highly motivated colleagues.
