About
Katja Pulkkinen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. Her research areas encompass the study of environmental pathogens, including the effects of nutrient enrichment on virulence and the adaptation to elemental limitations. She has also explored phenotypic variation in fish pathogens influenced by resource environments and conducted comparative analyses of stable isotope ratios in phocid seals.

The University of Jyväskylä's Department of Biological and Environmental Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Limnology and/or Aquatic Ecology. This fixed-term position, starting April 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter), runs until July 31, 2028, as part of the Dark LaDy consortium project funded by the Research Council of Finland. The project, in collaboration with Syke and the University of Helsinki, investigates the impact of terrestrial dissolved organic matter (tDOM) and elemental loading on aquatic food webs, focusing on nutritional quality, biodiversity, ecosystem functionality, biomass, and energy transfer at the ecosystem level. Research at Jyväskylä will emphasize ionome analysis, carbon quality characterization, and microbial production using fatty acid stable isotopes and water analyses. The successful candidate will participate in lake sampling and mesocosm experiments, conduct elemental, water, and carbon quality analyses, and measure microbial production. Responsibilities also include data analysis, dissemination of research findings through publications and conferences, and supervision of master's and bachelor's students. Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field by the start date and have experience in limnology and/or aquatic ecology. Additional experience with elemental analyses, fatty acids, stable isotopes, or carbon characterization is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate independence, teamwork, and strong communication skills. The position offers a salary of approximately 3600-4800 €/month (gross), depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a settling-in allowance for relocation. The University of Jyväskylä provides a supportive, international research environment, excellent facilities, and a vibrant campus in the heart of Jyväskylä, Finland. To apply, candidates must have a public ORCID profile and submit their application (CV, motivation letter, publication list, and degree certificate) in English and PDF format via the university's online application form by January 9, 2026. For further information, contact Senior Lecturer Katja Pulkkinen at [email protected].
