The University of Jyväskylä’s Faculty of Information Technology invites applications for a fully funded Doctoral Researcher position in Quantum Programming and Algorithms, starting February 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. This four-year PhD position is designed for candidates aiming to complete their doctoral studies in the rapidly evolving field of distributed quantum computing. The research will focus on the development of methods and software tools to support distributed quantum computing, including the design of distributed quantum algorithms, circuits, error correction, and the optimization and partitioning of quantum circuits for maximum efficiency. The successful candidate will join the Quantum Programming and Algorithms (QPA) research branch within the international QIC team at the Faculty of IT. The project emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and offers opportunities to participate in an international research network. The University of Jyväskylä provides a vibrant academic environment, a lively campus, and a supportive community, all located in the heart of Jyväskylä, Finland—a city known for its high standard of living, excellent educational infrastructure, and active cultural and outdoor life. Eligibility and Requirements: Applicants must possess an excellent M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Quantum Technology, or a closely related field. Required skills include strong Python programming and a solid understanding of quantum computing principles. Additional advantages are knowledge of communication networks, distributed computing, experience with quantum programming frameworks (Qiskit, QuTiP, pytket), circuit optimization, quantum error correction, software development, and familiarity with optimization techniques and machine learning. Candidates should be able to conduct independent research, communicate effectively in English, and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. A good command of English is mandatory. Candidates must have, or be eligible to apply for, permission for post-graduate studies at the University of Jyväskylä. A six-month trial period applies at the start of employment.
