Postdoctoral Positions in Immunology and Vaccine Development
The Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is offering postdoctoral positions in immunology and vaccine development, available immediately. The CVD is internationally recognized for its work in genetically engineering and testing vaccines against a wide range of infections, including malaria, COVID-19, and influenza. The center is one of the few worldwide engaged in the full spectrum of vaccinology, from basic science to clinical evaluation and field studies. Postdoctoral fellows will participate in immunological studies aimed at understanding immune responses and identifying immunological correlates of protection following immunization and infection in humans. The long-term goal is to accelerate the development of novel vaccines. Research will explore mechanisms of systemic and mucosal immunity across age groups and their relationship to the gut microbiota. Projects will involve advanced technologies such as high-parameter flow cytometry and mass cytometry, complex data analyses, and a variety of molecular biology and immunological techniques. These include functional assays, multiplexed biomarker determinations, bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, CITE-seq, scTCR-seq, scBCR-seq, epigenetic landscape determinations, and studies on microRNAs in immunity regulation. The CVD provides a nurturing environment focused on training and supporting postdoctoral fellows toward independence. Fellowships are initially for one year and may be renewed annually for up to five years based on progress. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Microbiology/Immunology and/or an M.D., experience in immunological mechanisms, a strong publication record, motivation, organizational skills, attention to detail, scientific integrity, excellent communication skills, and a valid US work VISA. Desirable skills include molecular biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, and experience with flow and mass cytometry.
