Fully funded PhD opportunity at University College London (UCL) in Biochemical Engineering, in collaboration with AstraZeneca, on Beyond Newtonian: Digital Twins and Scaling Rules for Next-Generation Biologics Manufacturing . The project focuses on concentrated protein drugs that can behave like shear-thinning fluids rather than Newtonian liquids. The successful PhD researcher will develop rheological models for these biologics, integrate them into CFD-based process models , validate the models experimentally, and derive scaling rules to improve biomanufacturing scale-up. This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates interested in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, rheology, CFD, digital twins, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing . The post notes that an ideal background is in chemical, biochemical or mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, or a similar area. The studentship is fully funded for 4 years and is part of the Next-Gen Biopharma Manufacturing 5.0 Prosperity Partnership jointly supervised by UCL and AstraZeneca. The project code is 2531cc1021 . Deadline: 8 January 2027, 12:00 noon UK time. How to apply: Visit the linked project page, use project code 2531cc1021, and submit your application before the deadline. For questions, contact the poster, Marco Marques.
