PhD in Molecular Biosciences / Energy Metabolism at Stockholm University

Stockholm University is advertising a PhD position in Molecular Biosciences within Professor Martin Jastroch ’s research group at the Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) . The project focuses on molecular mechanisms of energy metabolism , especially in relation to obesity , metabolic diseases , and evolution . The research combines experimental work with mouse and marsupial models , adipocyte cell culture , mouse metabolic phenotyping , bioenergetic analyses , and molecular analyses . A significant part of the work involves handling large omics datasets, so basic computational and programming skills are needed. The position is based in a strong international research environment at MBW, which has more than 30 research groups and around 180 employees, including many doctoral students. The post is a time-limited doctoral employment at full time for up to four years. Eligibility and requirements: Applicants must meet the general and specific doctoral admission requirements by the application deadline. This includes an advanced degree or equivalent coursework of at least 240 higher education credits, with at least 60 credits at advanced level. For this project, a FELASA certificate is required for work with laboratory mice, and familiarity with adipocyte culture is expected at the start. Basic molecular methods are required, and experience with cellular respirometry is considered an advantage. The selection also values strong subject knowledge, analytical and creative thinking, initiative, independence, teamwork, and the ability to communicate in both Swedish and English.
