A fully funded PhD position is available in the newly established junior research group led by Dr. Tilmann J. Neubert at the Chair of Chemistry of Materials for Energy Applications, Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The position is part of the QuiCCoDAC project, which focuses on developing sustainable and energy-efficient electrochemical direct air capture (DAC) of carbon dioxide using quinone/carbon hybrid materials. The research aims to advance green chemistry and circular economy principles by synthesizing and hybridizing carbon-based carrier materials and organochemical absorber materials, particularly porous carbons and quinones derived from renewable resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for the 'Materials & Synthesis' package, including the design, synthesis, and modification of absorber and carrier materials, combining them into hybrid materials, and processing them into electrodes for DAC in battery-like cells. The project is interdisciplinary, offering opportunities to contribute to disruptive technology and support the growth of a young, motivated research group. Funding is provided by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung under the CZS Nexus programme, with a substantial budget covering salary and research costs.
