KU Leuven

Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuromodulation of Feeding

The Zandawala Lab at KU Leuven is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the neuromodulation of feeding in Drosophila melanogaster and other arthropods. The lab focuses on the diverse roles of neuropeptides in controlling essential physiological processes such as feeding, metabolism, sleep, stress, reproduction, development, and locomotion. Utilizing a range of advanced techniques—including molecular and anatomical methods, CRISPR/Cas9, Drosophila genetics, behavioral analyses, optogenetics, calcium imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, and connectomics—the lab aims to unravel the mechanisms by which neuropeptides mediate their effects. Recent publications from the lab highlight its expertise in neuronal communication and connectomics, including studies on feeding decision-making, anti-diuretic hormone signaling, and synaptic connectomes in Drosophila. The successful candidate will perform independent wet bench and/or computational research, supervise PhD and master students, present project results at various meetings, lead scientific paper writing, and assist in grant applications. Applicants must hold (or expect to hold by appointment) a PhD in Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Molecular Genetics, or a related discipline. A strong publication record is essential for applying to postdoctoral fellowships such as MSCA or EMBO. Basic expertise in bioinformatics or computational biology is required, with a willingness to expand these skills. Previous experience with Drosophila or other arthropods is mandatory. The position offers a competitive postdoctoral salary, healthcare, and other benefits. The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension up to four years following positive evaluation. Candidates are expected to apply for competitive postdoctoral fellowships during their appointment. KU Leuven provides a dynamic and international research environment and is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. For more information, contact Prof. dr. Meet Zandawala at [email protected]. Applications should be submitted via the KU Leuven job portal before the deadline of December 31, 2026.
