Fully Funded PhD in Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power Technologies

PhD opportunity at the University of Bath in Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power Technologies with Prof Min Pan in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This fully funded PhD project explores digital hydraulics , fluid power systems , and control engineering to develop new switched hydraulic components and systems that can improve energy efficiency. The research is motivated by the need to reduce energy loss in conventional hydraulic systems, with potential benefits for robotics, transportation, oil and gas, construction, agriculture, and sustainable machinery. Research themes and keywords: fluid power, digital hydraulics, dynamic systems, modelling and simulation, mechanics, control systems, energy technologies, mechanical engineering, sustainable machines. Funding: The studentship is fully funded and covers tuition fees at the Home or Overseas rate plus a maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate (£19,237 in 2024/25) for up to 3.5 years. Eligibility: Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a First Class or good Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent). A master’s degree would be advantageous. Experience or interest in fluid power systems, control engineering, dynamic systems, modelling, and simulation is welcomed. Non-UK applicants must meet the University of Bath English language requirement.
