A fully funded PhD position is available in the research group of Assistant Professor Mostafa Mobasher at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), starting Fall 2025. The research will focus on damage and fracture mechanics, multiphysics modeling, and the integration of machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) methods. The scope is flexible, addressing diverse material classes and engineering applications. The position is part of the NYU Global Ph.D. Student Fellowship, a collaboration between NYU Tandon School of Engineering and NYU Abu Dhabi’s Division of Engineering. Students will enroll in either the Civil or Mechanical Engineering doctorate program at NYU Tandon, undertake most coursework in New York, and conduct research in Abu Dhabi, benefiting from world-class resources at both campuses. The fellowship provides full tuition, fees, health insurance, a generous research assistantship and stipend, travel support between Abu Dhabi and New York, free campus accommodation in Abu Dhabi, and a contribution toward accommodation costs in New York. Applicants must have an M.S. in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (or closely related field), strong computational mechanics experience, programming proficiency (Python, Fortran, C/C++, etc.), excellent academic record, and strong communication skills.
