Master’s Research Opportunity in Cancer Genomics (Whole Exome Sequencing) at National University of Malaysia
The Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) is inviting applications for a funded Master’s research position in cancer genomics, specifically focusing on Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) in laryngeal cancer. This project integrates both laboratory-based and computational approaches, making it ideal for students interested in cancer genomics, precision medicine, and next-generation sequencing (NGS). The research will involve work in human genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics, with opportunities to develop skills in both wet lab and data analysis techniques.
Applicants must be Malaysian citizens eligible for full-time enrollment at UKM and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Medicine, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related field, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0. Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is required. Candidates should have completed undergraduate coursework in Human Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics. Prior research experience (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, NGS) and basic programming skills (R/Python) are advantageous but not mandatory. Additional skills in histology processing and SPSS are beneficial. The project is supervised by Dr. Nadhirah and Dr. Syakima at UKM.
The position provides a monthly allowance of RM1800 for two years. Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter detailing their academic background, relevant experience, and motivation for joining the project to Dr. Nadhirah ([email protected]), with a copy to Dr. Syakima ([email protected]), by 28 February 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for students passionate about cancer research, genomics, and bioinformatics to gain hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary environment at a leading Malaysian institution.
