PhD and Postdoctoral Researcher in AI-Driven Platform for 2D Materials Synthesis and Discovery

Paul Drude Institute for Solid State Electronics (PDI) in Berlin is recruiting for two research positions in a newly funded NSF–DFG DMREF project: a PhD student and a Postdoctoral Researcher . The project, “AI-Driven Platform for 2D Materials Synthesis and Discovery,” sits at the intersection of computational materials science , physics , materials science , computer science , and experimental 2D materials research. The work combines generative AI , density functional theory (DFT) , molecular dynamics , and materials synthesis , with strong collaboration across AI/ML, multiscale modeling, and experiment. Highlights include access to dedicated GPU-based HPC resources, close interaction with an interdisciplinary team, and collaboration with experimental researchers working on 2D materials synthesis and characterization. The post also emphasizes PDI’s internationally diverse environment and its state-of-the-art facilities for molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth in Berlin. Applicants with a background in Physics and/or Materials Science are especially encouraged to reach out. The project also involves international collaboration with the 2D Crystal Consortium – NSF Materials Innovation Platform at Penn State University . To apply, use the separate job links for the PhD and postdoc openings, or contact the listed researchers for more information.
