The University of Cologne is offering a research assistant position in the project RUN DMP – Revealing User Needs for Data Management Plans (in the Humanities) at the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH). The project investigates how data management plans (DMPs) are used in the digital humanities and what benefits they provide, combining qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The successful candidate will work with project leaders PD Dr. Markus Hoffmann and Prof. Dr. Nils Reiter. Core tasks include collecting and structuring DMPs, conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses, preparing and carrying out interviews with researchers, evaluating published research data and outputs from a research data management perspective, and contributing to recommendations for DMP use, a prototype DMP template, and training concepts for DMP competencies. This is a part-time, fixed-term position for 3 years starting 15 January 2027. The salary is based on TV-L pay grade EG 13, subject to the relevant collective agreement and personal qualifications. The position is embedded in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment at the Philosophical Faculty and the DCH in Cologne, with links to the Department of Educational and Social Sciences. Applicants should hold a completed Master’s, Magister, or Diplom degree in the humanities and/or social sciences, ideally with a strong background in qualitative content analysis. The post also requires experience with scientific interviews, statistical analysis of interview data, research data management knowledge or readiness to acquire it, experience with MaxQDA, and excellent German and English skills.
