1–2 fully funded PhD positions are available at Iowa State University in the PHASE Lab (Physics & Health via AI and Shape Emulation), starting Fall 2027.
The lab will be led by Prof. Pan Du in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and focuses on

biomedical AI
, AI-driven digital twins, hybrid neural modeling, inverse problems, optimization, and uncertainty quantification (UQ).
Students interested in AI for computational science, geometry modeling, scientific computing, and biomedical systems are encouraged to apply. Relevant backgrounds include Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, and related fields.
The positions are described as
fully funded

Minimum requirements include a strong research motivation, a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree, and interest or experience in computational methods, machine learning, and scientific programming. Preferred experience includes fluid mechanics, computational physics, medical image processing, biomechanics, deep learning, Python/JAX/Julia/PyTorch/C/C++, Bayesian methods, inverse problems, and UQ.
