ERC-Funded PhD Position in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biotherapeutic Delivery at University of Bern

An ERC-funded PhD position is available in the Pharmaceutical Technology research group led by Prof. Paola Luciani at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The position is part of the ERC Synergy project “Covalent Chaotropic Membrane Transport for Biotherapeutic Delivery” (CARAMEL), which aims to develop innovative strategies for delivering impermeable biotherapeutic molecules, such as peptides and proteins, into cells by overcoming the cell membrane barrier using superchaotropic boron clusters. The research will be conducted within the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences (DCBP) at the University of Bern. The project offers the opportunity for secondments in the labs of other principal investigators: Prof. Javier Montenegro (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain), Prof. Werner Nau (Constructor University, Germany), and Prof. Oliver Hantschel (Marburg University, Germany), fostering a collaborative and international research environment. Key academic keywords include pharmaceutical technology, biotherapeutic delivery, membrane transport, boron clusters, peptides, proteins, and drug delivery. The project is fully funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and will run for up to 6 years. Applicants should have a strong background in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields. Experience with biotherapeutics, peptides, proteins, or drug delivery is advantageous. The position is open to highly motivated candidates who are eager to work in an international and interdisciplinary team. The application deadline is February 1, 2026. For more information and to apply, follow the instructions provided in the linked post. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in cutting-edge research at the intersection of pharmacy, chemistry, and biotherapeutic technology.
