PhD opportunity in precision medicine and global health at the University of Glasgow. Professor Pasquale Maffia is recruiting a PhD student for an MRC Precision Medicine project conducted in collaboration with the Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit (MEIRU). The project, Metabolomic signatures of hypertension, diabetes and cardiometabolic multimorbidity in rural and urban Malawi: stratification, inequalities and prediction of incident disease , will investigate whether metabolomics can improve understanding and prediction of cardiometabolic diseases in African populations. The research combines metabolomics, cardiovascular immunology, epidemiology, machine learning and precision medicine. Using unique population-based cohorts from Malawi, the successful candidate will study molecular signatures of hypertension and diabetes, examine health inequalities, and develop improved approaches to predicting incident disease. The supervisory team includes Prof Pasquale Maffia, Dr Owen Nkoka, Prof Amelia (Mia) Crampin and Dr Pierpaolo Pellicori. The PhD offers interdisciplinary training and international collaboration spanning immunology, cardiovascular medicine, global health and cardiometabolic health.
