Loughborough University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Porous Materials and Lithography, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The position is based in the Department of Chemistry, School of Science, and will be supervised by Professor Paul Roach and Dr. Antonio Fernandez Mato. The research focuses on developing novel methods for patterning porous structures, particularly hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), using advanced lithography techniques such as photolithography and thermal scanning lithography. These patterned materials have applications in gas separation, catalysis, energy storage, microelectronics, and nanotechnology, with the potential to create new, smaller, and more sensitive electronic sensors. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment at Loughborough University, which is renowned for its excellence in science and engineering. The project sits at the intersection of synthetic chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology, and will involve collaboration with leading experts in the field. The role requires a PhD (or near completion) in chemistry or a related discipline, with proven experience in organic synthesis and materials science. Key skills include authoring academic publications, excellent communication, self-motivation, organizational abilities, and proficiency in analytical techniques such as NMR, TGA, SEM, MS, and BET. The ability to write technical reports and present research to both industrial and academic audiences is essential. The position is full-time until 31 August 2027, with a starting salary from £35,608 per annum. Loughborough University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous holiday allowance, pension schemes, flexible and hybrid working options, discounted gym memberships, and support for financial wellbeing. Visa sponsorship may be available for eligible candidates. The university is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from underrepresented groups. To apply, candidates should submit an online application via the Loughborough University vacancies portal by 18 January 2026. Informal enquiries can be directed to Prof Paul Roach ([email protected]) or Dr. Antonio Fernandez Mato ([email protected]). For further details, refer to the official job description and person specification. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers interested in porous materials, lithography, and advanced materials science to contribute to cutting-edge research in a supportive and dynamic academic environment.
