The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Physical Mathematics Lab and the Department of Mathematics in Chapel Hill, United States. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of fluid mechanics and soft matter physics . Current research directions include pilot-wave hydrodynamics, vibrating bubbles, nonlinear waves, and active matter. The group welcomes strong theoreticians and encourages applications from outstanding experimentalists. Theoretical applicants should have expertise in applied mathematics, such as asymptotic analysis, perturbation methods, dynamical systems, and scientific computation. Experimental applicants should have experience with experimental fluid mechanics, laboratory design, high-speed imaging, flow visualization, and quantitative data analysis. The role also includes supervising graduate and undergraduate researchers and helping develop collaborations within and beyond UNC. A Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field is required by the time of appointment. The appointment is full-time for an estimated 12 months, with a proposed start date of July 1, 2026. Compensation depends on experience and qualifications. UNC provides postdoctoral medical and vision coverage, paid leave, and professional-development benefits.
