PhD Scholarship in Oncology Nursing at Cabrini Health and Monash University

Applications are open for the Peter Meese Cabrini Oncology Nursing PhD Scholarship , a joint initiative between Cabrini Health and Monash University . This opportunity is designed for registered nurses who want to undertake PhD research in oncology nursing while continuing clinical practice. The scholarship is especially suitable for candidates interested in improving cancer care , nursing-led research, and evidence generation that can shape future oncology nursing practice. The successful candidate will develop a research project with supervisors from Cabrini and Monash Nursing & Midwifery, aligned with Cabrini Health’s strategic priorities in cancer care. The supervisory team listed includes Professor Philip Russo and A/Professor Olivia Cook , with others to be confirmed. Funding includes a competitive PhD stipend of $37,145 per annum at the 2026 full-time rate, pro-rata for part-time enrolment, plus annual indexation. Additional support is available through Monash Nursing & Midwifery PhD Support Funds of up to $4,000 for project resources and conference presentation, along with travel grant support. Eligibility highlights include current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and satisfaction of Monash University PhD entry requirements. These include a relevant four-year bachelor’s degree with research thesis/project and strong honours-equivalent results, or a relevant master’s degree with a substantial research thesis/project, or an equivalent qualification/professional experience accepted by the university. Applications use a two-stage process : first submit an Expression of Interest with a cover letter, CV, transcripts, and referee contacts; shortlisted candidates are then invited to submit a full PhD candidature application. The closing date is 7 August 2026, 11:55pm AEST . For enquiries, contact Professor Philip Russo at Philip.russo@monash.edu or nursingresearch@cabrini.com.au .
