PhD in Rheology of Suspensions of Particles with Complex Shape at ESPCI Paris

PhD opening at ESPCI Paris in collaboration with Gulliver and PMMH for experimental research on the rheology of suspensions of particles with complex shape . The project studies how particle shape affects the flow properties of dense suspensions, with a focus on the link between microscopic particle organization and macroscopic rheological behavior. The research combines microfluidics , 3D nanoprinting , and rheological measurements , and is especially relevant to soft matter , fluid mechanics , materials science , and applications in construction materials such as concrete and cement-based systems. The PhD candidate will design suspensions of 2D particles with complex shapes in microfluidics, study flows in complex geometries, fabricate 3D particles using a 3D-nanoprinter, and investigate rheology using custom 2D experimental setups and conventional rheometry. The work aims to develop new design principles for more sustainable, easier-to-process low-carbon building materials. Eligibility highlights: the applicant should be interested in experiments, fluid mechanics, and soft matter. The position is a PhD opening and is expected to start before December 2026 . Funding is provided by the Région Île-de-France (DIM MaTerRE) . Applications should be sent by email to [email protected] and [email protected] .
