Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Metamorphic Geochemistry and Nitrogen Cycling at University of Oxford

University of Oxford is advertising a 36-month postdoctoral research assistant (PDRA) position in Metamorphic Geochemistry within the Department of Earth Sciences. The project is supported by the NERC Pushing the Frontiers grant NITRO-MET: Reactive Nitrogen Supply Driven by Orogenic Metamorphism . The research will investigate the behaviour of nitrogen and nitrogen isotopes during orogenesis, with a particular focus on the role of mica and feldspar in pelitic sediments undergoing regional metamorphism and partial melting. Research activities include field sampling, laboratory analyses, petrological modelling of metamorphic phase equilibria, and time-dependent thermal–tectonic modelling of collisional orogenesis. The project also includes fieldwork in Canada and visits to the Edinburgh Ion Microprobe Facility for SIMS analyses. Ideal candidates should have experience in field mapping and sampling in metamorphic terranes , chemical and petrological analysis of metamorphic rocks , petrological modelling of phase equilibria , and stable isotope geochemistry . The post is hosted at Oxford Earth Sciences and involves collaboration with the universities of Hull, St Andrews, Edinburgh, and Halle (Germany). This is a research job opening rather than a scholarship. The deadline is midday on 8 May 2026 . Interested applicants should review the full job details and application instructions using the provided links.
