Montana State University is offering a 10-week summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) focused on Extreme Biofilms and the Microbiology of Low Oxygen Ecosystems. This program is designed for undergraduate students interested in exploring the unique physical, physiological, and genetic adaptations of biofilm-forming microorganisms in extreme environments. Participants will engage in hands-on research projects, professional development activities, and leadership training, including networking opportunities and a poster presentation at the end-of-program symposium. The program includes a field visit to Yellowstone National Park, where students will study extreme biofilms in geothermal basins. The REU provides a $7000 stipend, covers on-campus housing, and offers partial support for food and travel expenses. No prior research experience or formal coursework in microbiology, biofilm science, or bioengineering is required, making this an excellent opportunity for students from diverse academic backgrounds.
