1-year postdoc position in Operations Research

KU Leuven’s ORSTAT research group at the Faculty of Economics and Business is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral researcher in Operations Research. ORSTAT is internationally recognized for research in operations research and statistics, with work spanning combinatorial optimization, stochastic modeling, and data-driven decision-making. The successful candidate will join a one-year postdoc starting in or around October 2026 and will work closely with Prof. Roel Leus on decision diagram-based methods for combinatorial optimization. The role includes developing new theory and algorithms, exploring high-impact applications, publishing in leading journals, and contributing fresh independent ideas within the broader research theme. In addition to research, the postdoc will collaborate within ORSTAT and with international partners, co-supervise PhD students, and help prepare competitive research proposals. The position offers a dynamic, stimulating research environment with strong international visibility and opportunities for collaboration and career development. Applicants should hold a PhD in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, and have a strong background in mathematical programming, combinatorial optimization, or algorithm design. A strong publication record or clear potential for high-level publication is expected. Experience with decision diagrams, international research settings, grant writing, and collaboration building is advantageous. The appointment is full-time for one year, with a competitive salary and benefits under KU Leuven policies. Extension or follow-up possibilities may be explored depending on performance and funding opportunities. The tentative starting date is 1 October 2026, flexible by mutual agreement. To apply, candidates should submit a concise motivation letter, CV, and referee contact details through the KU Leuven application link. For questions about the role, contact Prof. dr. Roel Leus at [email protected].
