The fellowship duration is
8 to 24 months
. Applicants must have a
Ph.D. or D.M.
earned within the past four years, must have a publication in a reputed journal, and must meet the Fulbright-Nehru eligibility rules. Indian government and state government civil servants are not eligible, while researchers and academicians from several centrally funded institutions and universities may apply.

, a settling-in allowance, and a professional allowance. A dependent allowance and international travel may also be available subject to funds.
