IRB Barcelona

Postdoctoral Fellow in Innate Immune Biology: Dendritic Cells and Neutrophil Immunometabolism

IRB Barcelona is recruiting two Postdoctoral Fellows in the Innate Immune Biology laboratory led by Dr. Stefanie Wculek . The projects focus on dendritic cells and neutrophils , with a strong emphasis on immunometabolism , aging , obesity , and metabolic disease . One project will investigate the tissue-specific biology of dendritic cells in aging, including context-dependent adaptations in young and aging-associated obese tissues and the molecular mechanisms behind these changes. The second project will study the immunometabolism of neutrophils in health, obesity, and metabolic disease, aiming to uncover mechanistic links between functional and metabolic alterations in mouse and human neutrophils. Successful candidates are expected to work independently and analyze/interpret transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenetic, and metabolomic datasets in collaboration with the bioinformatics unit. The role also involves advanced experimental work with mouse models , primary tissue culture, human samples, multicolor flow cytometry, cell sorting, multiplex microscopy, spatial tissue analysis, epigenetic analyses, and metabolic assays. Applicants should hold a PhD in biomedicine or biosciences (ideally completed within the last 2 years). Experience in dendritic cells, neutrophils, innate immunity, immunometabolism, aging, obesity, or metabolic disease is highly relevant. Bioinformatic and multi-omics experience, as well as work with primary human cells/tissues, are especially valued. Strong English communication, teamwork, motivation, and organizational skills are required. The positions are full-time postdoctoral contracts at IRB Barcelona. One post is co-funded by the European Research Council project MyTissue (Grant Agreement 101117470), and the other is funded by MICIU/AEI under action CNS2025-165793. The institute offers a competitive salary, Spanish Social Security coverage, training and career development, and relocation/visa assistance. Deadline: 2026-06-25. Applicants should submit a CV, motivation letter, and relevant experience through the IRB Barcelona recruitment portal.
