Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Systems Neuroscience at Karolinska Institute, Sweden
The Stagkourakis Lab at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Sweden, is seeking a highly independent postdoctoral researcher for experimental systems neuroscience projects. The lab, located at SciLifeLab, focuses on the neural control of survival and homeostatic behaviors such as aggression, fear, and feeding, utilizing advanced techniques including large-scale neural recordings, in vivo imaging, causal perturbations, and quantitative data analysis in freely moving mice. Research interests span neural population dynamics, behavioral neuroscience, and the integration of computational and experimental approaches.
Applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent foreign degree and hands-on experience in at least one of the following: stereotaxic surgery in mice, large-scale electrophysiology (preferably Neuropixels or high-channel silicon probes), in vivo imaging (miniscope or two-photon microscopy), or RNA sequencing/spatial transcriptomics. Strong familiarity with the other domains is expected. Additional skills such as proficiency in MATLAB or Python for big data analysis, experience with custom behavioral paradigms, and familiarity with hardware/software integration (e.g., Arduino, Bonsai, DataJoint) are advantageous. The position is open to foreign researchers who have not completed their academic education in Sweden. The scholarship is tax-free, set for twelve months at a time (renewable up to two years), and paid out on a six-month basis. The lab provides access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced electrophysiology and imaging systems, behavioral setups, and computational support. Training and mentorship in experimental strategy, data analysis, and scientific writing are provided, along with opportunities to supervise students and collaborate with international researchers.
