PhD Opportunity: Chemical and Biochemical Recycling of Blended Textiles at Dublin City University This PhD position is offered within the Kelleher Group at Dublin City University as part of the funded PUreTex project. The project addresses a major sustainability challenge in chemistry and materials science : recycling blended textiles, which are difficult to process because they contain multiple fibre types such as polyester-cotton blends. The research is highly interdisciplinary and spans organic chemistry , chemical recycling , enzyme-based and biocatalytic techniques , mass spectrometry , and separation science . The aim is to develop selective chemical and biochemical degradation pathways that can break down blended textiles into recoverable, high-value components. The student will work in a research-intensive environment with access to strong facilities in analytical chemistry, separation science, and materials characterisation, and will collaborate with the wider PUreTex team and external partners. Eligibility: Applicants should have a 2.1 BSc (Hons) or MSc in Chemistry, Analytical Science, Biochemistry, or an equivalent discipline. Final-year students expecting to graduate with the required grades are encouraged to apply. A solid foundation in organic chemistry is important, and experience or strong interest in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and mass spectrometry is desirable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills are expected. Funding: This is a fully funded four-year PhD with a stipend aligned to Irish Universities Association (IUA) postgraduate guidelines. How to apply: Send your CV, a short cover letter, and contact details for two academic referees to Dr Susan Kelleher by 31 May 2026 . Informal enquiries are welcome.
