Postdoctoral Fellowship in Experimental Molecular Biophysics and Plasmonic Fluorescence Enhancement

Postdoctoral fellowship in experimental molecular biophysics at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The project focuses on plasmonic fluorescence enhancement of individual light-harvesting complexes . The fellow will synthesize metal nanoparticles, use nanoparticle arrays, attach light-harvesting complexes to the nanoparticles, and perform single-molecule spectroscopy studies of hybrid systems. The research is hosted by the Biophysics and Photonics research group led by Prof. Tjaart Krüger in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. The group works at the interface of biomolecules, plasmonics, and quantum mechanics. Eligibility highlights: a PhD in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field; prior experimental experience with biomolecules, metallic nanoparticles, and/or laser spectroscopy is an advantage; strong oral, writing, and presentation skills; and a publication/conference record. The successful applicant must spend at least 80% of the postdoctoral period at the University of Pretoria. Funding: R320,000 per annum. The fellowship runs until December 2027 or longer, subject to satisfactory progress. Application: email Prof. Tjaart Krüger with a motivation letter, detailed CV, and two letters of reference. The fellowship is immediately available and the first suitable candidate may be selected quickly.
