PhD opportunity in Design and Analysis of Human-AI Systems at ETH Zurich The Decision Sciences and Analytics group at ETH Zurich , led by Prof. Tu Ni , is seeking a doctoral student to study the design and analysis of human-AI systems . The project focuses on developing AI systems while understanding and reshaping the role of humans in high-stakes decision settings. The research context is broad and may include AI for clinical decisions , AI for legal decisions , and AI for learning and education . The work is mainly theoretical, but may also involve empirical studies such as field or lab experiments when needed. The successful candidate will analyze AI systems with long-term impact, design systems that produce efficient and reliable outcomes, and publish high-quality papers in top-tier OM journals. In addition to research, the doctoral student will contribute to lab responsibilities such as teaching and advising master’s theses. The position is based in Zurich, Switzerland and is initially offered for 18 months , with the prospect of extension to a four- to five-year PhD , subject to satisfactory progress. Gross salary follows ETH Zurich regulations. Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in applied mathematics, economics, operations, or a closely related field; excellent academic record; strong analytical and modeling skills (e.g. optimization, mechanism design); excellent communication skills; industrial experience in AI deployment is a plus.
