Post-doctoral assistant in marine food webs and benthic biogeochemistry

Ghent University is recruiting a full-time post-doctoral assistant in the Marine Biology Research group within the Faculty of Sciences, Department WE11 - Biologie. The project focuses on the influence of human activities on marine food webs and benthic biogeochemistry , with an emphasis on marine (food web) ecology, sediment biogeochemical processes, and modelling approaches. This position is hosted at Ghent University, Belgium , and is offered as a fixed-term contract of 18 months at 100% occupancy. The salary will follow the PD1 to PD4 scale for holders of a doctoral degree. The post is associated with the group of Prof. Ulrike Braeckman . The successful candidate will conduct fundamental research in marine ecology and biogeochemistry, contribute to proposals in the field of marine food webs, and participate in sampling campaigns at sea lasting from a few days to a week. The role also includes support for teaching activities at Ghent University, including supervising bachelor and master thesis projects and assisting in practical and theoretical biology and ecology classes. Applicants should hold a thesis-based doctorate obtained within the last 6 years, preferably in Biology or Marine Sciences, or a related subject accepted by the selection committee. A strong interest in or experience with sediment biogeochemical modelling or food web modelling is highlighted, together with excellent English communication skills and a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The post is suitable for researchers looking to strengthen their academic career in an international and interdisciplinary setting.
