SMARTNESS (FAPESP/Ericsson) is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in immersive media compression at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. The project sits within SMARTNESS, an Engineering Research Center focused on computer networks and digital application services, with this position centered on immersive communications and next-generation media systems for 6G networks . Research topics include video coding , signal processing , neural networks , Gaussian splats , and broader immersive media representations such as point clouds, light fields, and meshes. The fellow is expected to conduct collaborative research, implement and evaluate novel video coding algorithms, contribute to high-impact publications, write standardization contributions, submit patent applications, and participate in standardization activities linked to MPEG/JPEG and related bodies. Eligibility highlights: a PhD in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field; experience in video coding and signal processing; experience with immersive media representations, especially 3D Gaussian splats; and a strong publication record. The opportunity is open to both Brazilian and international applicants.
