IMT Atlantique is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Metasurfaces and Visual Optics within its Optics Department in Brest, France. This position is part of the MSDIO project , a collaborative research program with Cristalens Industrie , a major French ophthalmic device manufacturer. The project aims to develop a novel intraocular lens (IOL) incorporating metasurfaces for next-generation visual correction. The successful candidate will work on the modeling and simulation of advanced optical correction functions, including monofocal, multifocal, or switchable IOLs. The role also includes cleanroom prototyping via multiphoton photolithography, experimental characterization of metasurfaces, development of dedicated software tools, and dissemination of results through publications and international conferences. The position is based at IMT Atlantique , a leading engineering school in the IMT group, on the Brest campus by the ocean. The research environment is described as highly collaborative and supported by modern facilities, including the Arago platform. The appointment is full-time, temporary, and connected to a research infrastructure setting. Eligibility highlights: candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or a related field, with the doctorate obtained less than three years before the hiring date. Applicants are expected to have strong expertise in metasurface modeling and optical simulation tools such as Lumerical/Planopsim and Zemax, and ideally photolithography. Experience in optical design and/or cleanroom microfabrication is preferred, along with knowledge of visual perception and visual optics. Funding and conditions: the position is a paid postdoctoral contract, but no detailed stipend or salary amount is provided in the announcement. Benefits mentioned include on-site cafeteria, public transport subsidies, sustainable mobility support, family allowance, social benefits, partial teleworking, and generous leave. Application window: the deadline is 28 November 2026, with a planned start date of 1 February 2027. Interviews are stated to be on a rolling basis.
