About
Vivek Prakash is an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, USA. His research focuses on developmental biology, particularly in relation to amniote gastrulation, tissue mechanics, and fluid dynamics in food science. Recent articles of his investigate the teratogenic effects of PFAS compounds, the cellular dynamics in gastrulation, and the biomechanics in both marine and culinary contexts.

The Prakash Lab at the University of Miami Department of Physics is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on an NIH-funded project in bio-fluid mechanics, in collaboration with Prof. Mansi Srivastava’s lab at Harvard University. The project focuses on developing Hofstenia miamia, a highly regenerative marine worm, as a new quantitative model for neuroscience. The research will involve measuring and modeling cilia-driven locomotion and fluid flows, using computational and theoretical approaches to link neural activity, body kinematics, and behavior. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in fluid dynamics and computational/theoretical work. The ideal candidate will be interested in building quantitative data analysis pipelines and developing computational or theoretical models for new biological systems. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal depending on funding. The start date is flexible, with a preferred start in January or February 2026. To apply, candidates should email Dr. Vivek Prakash at [email protected] with the subject line 'Postdoc position: Hofstenia', including a CV with a full publication list, a short statement of interest, and the names of three references. The application deadline is January 15, 2026. For more information, visit the Prakash Lab website at www.marinebiophysics.org and the Srivastava Lab at www.srivastavalab.org. This opportunity is ideal for recent PhD graduates with expertise in bio-fluid mechanics, physics, computational neuroscience, and related fields, who are interested in interdisciplinary research at the interface of physics and biology.
