Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 at Wroclaw Medical University: Multimodal Imaging in Heart Failure

Wroclaw Medical University (WMU), a leading research and teaching institution in Central and Eastern Europe, invites applications for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026. This prestigious opportunity is hosted by the Institute of Heart Diseases, Department of Cardiovascular Imaging, under the supervision of Prof. Wojciech Kosmala, a renowned expert in cardiology. WMU is recognized for its excellence in clinical research, international collaborations, and contributions to evidence-based medicine, with a strong reputation in heart failure and cardiac surgery. The fellowship project, titled "Multimodal Imaging Markers Across the Tricuspid Regurgitation–Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction–Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction Spectrum: Cross-Sectional Characterization and Longitudinal Prediction of Symptomatic Transition," aims to advance understanding of the interplay between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and tricuspid regurgitation (TR). The research will explore the continuum from early-stage cardiac abnormalities to advanced disease, focusing on patients with functional TR and unrecognized LV diastolic dysfunction (LVDD). The project leverages advanced imaging modalities, including echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), to characterize structural, functional, and tissue-level markers, and to identify predictors of transition from asymptomatic to symptomatic heart failure. WMU offers a vibrant academic environment, with over 6,600 students and six faculties, and is ranked among the top Polish universities globally. The Institute of Heart Diseases collaborates with over 200 institutions worldwide and is a center of excellence in cardiology, with its researchers playing a leading role in the European Society of Cardiology and the editorial board of ESC Heart Failure. Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD at the call deadline and have no more than 8 years of full-time equivalent research experience since their first doctoral degree. Candidates of any nationality are welcome, but must not have resided or conducted their main activity in Poland for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the deadline. The fellowship duration is 24 months. Funding: The fellowship provides full funding for salary, research costs, and mobility allowance as per the Horizon Europe program guidelines. Application Process: Interested candidates should send a detailed CV (including publication list), a draft research proposal (max 5 pages), a short motivation letter, and one academic reference letter to Prof. Wojciech Kosmala ([email protected]) or the university office ([email protected]) by March 17, 2026. For more information about WMU, visit the university website . Strict confidentiality of all personal data and project concepts is guaranteed. This is an excellent opportunity for postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in clinical sciences, cardiology, or medical imaging to join a world-class institution and contribute to cutting-edge research in heart failure and cardiovascular imaging.
