Haotong Qin, Incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University , is recruiting PhD students , research assistants , research interns , and visiting students for work in AI efficiency , model compression , quantization , pruning , knowledge distillation , efficient foundation models , generative AI , AI hardware acceleration , and embedded & robotic systems . Research directions include extreme model compression, ultra-low-bit and binary neural networks, efficient neural architectures and inference strategies, capability-efficiency trade-offs for LLMs/VLMs/VLAs, AI accelerators, hardware-aware model design, deployment on embedded and reconfigurable devices, intelligent sensing, wearable systems, and real-time embodied intelligence. Applicants should have a strong interest in efficient AI and relevant backgrounds in machine learning, computer vision, robotics, computer architecture, embedded systems, or related areas.
