The Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Engineering Unit at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher or Staff Scientist in functional nucleic acids , synthetic biology , and animal experimentation . The lab develops functional nucleic acids and studies their sequences and functions, with collaborative projects aimed at biological applications and gene therapy. Current themes include the development and application of functional RNA devices such as riboswitches that function in mammalian cells, including validation experiments using mouse models . There may also be partial participation in industry collaborations. This is a full-time, fixed-term research position at OIST in Okinawa, Japan . The contract is for two years and may be renewed. Depending on experience and achievements after the PhD, appointment as a staff scientist is also possible. Salary is according to experience and ability, with a base salary starting at 5 million yen per year , plus commuting, housing, and relocation allowances. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in life sciences, biotechnology, medicine, or a related field. Required experience includes animal cells, viral vector construction, genome editing, and animal experiments, or equivalent training in these techniques. Candidates should also be able to plan research with applications in gene therapy , cell therapy , and regenerative medicine , and have basic English communication skills.
