The FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2026 conference is inviting abstract submissions for the symposium "Electronic, semiconducting, photonic, and quantum materials" within the Functional Materials thematic area. Organised by Assistant Professor Zhilun Lu from the University of Leeds, this event targets early career researchers, scientists, and academics working on advanced materials. The symposium will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterisation of materials for electronics, optoelectronics, and quantum technologies, including semiconductors, 2D materials, and novel photonic structures for next-generation devices. Junior EUROMAT is one of Europe's premier platforms for emerging materials scientists, offering opportunities for networking, collaboration, and visibility among peers, industry leaders, and academics. The event will take place in Trikala, Thessaly, Greece, from 12-16 July 2026. Researchers working on smart materials, energy systems, functional interfaces, advanced characterisation, and computational breakthroughs are encouraged to submit their abstracts. To participate, submit your abstract by 15 February 2026 via the provided link. This is an excellent opportunity to present your research, build your professional network, and contribute to the future of functional materials science. No specific funding or scholarship is associated with this call, and eligibility is open to early career researchers in the relevant fields.

Research Fellow in High Entropy Dielectric Ceramics at the University of Leeds . This is a 3-year postdoctoral opportunity in materials science , physics , and electrical materials , focused on developing high-entropy BiFeO3-based dielectric ceramics for next-generation multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) . The project is part of an EPSRC-funded programme in Dr. Zhilun Lu’s group and aims to improve energy recoverable density, efficiency, breakdown strength, and operating temperature range for applications in wide-bandgap power electronics. The research is experimentally based and involves dielectric ceramics processing , functional oxide materials , energy storage materials , and advanced characterization. Methods mentioned include X-ray/neutron scattering , electron microscopy , Rietveld refinement , and pair distribution function analysis , alongside electrical property measurements and structure-property analysis. Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or a closely allied discipline (or near completion), plus strong experience in dielectrics, ferroelectrics, ceramic/complex oxide fabrication, processing, and characterization. Experience with advanced crystal structure determination is especially relevant. Funding and conditions: the post is funded by EPSRC, with salary in the range £41,064–£48,822 . The advert notes that visa sponsorship may be possible under the Skilled Worker route, and Global Talent visa eligibility may also be considered. Application window: the vacancy closes on 4 August 2026 . Apply online through the University of Leeds jobs portal using the vacancy page.
