YLP MEXT Scholarship 2026

The Young Leaders' Program (YLP) MEXT Scholarship is a Japanese government scholarship administered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It is designed for promising young public administrators, legal professionals, business leaders, and other mid-career professionals who are expected to play leadership roles in their home countries.

The programme typically funds master's-level study in specialized YLP courses offered at selected universities in Japan. These courses are usually intensive, English-medium, and structured as a one-year degree programme. Fields commonly include public administration, law, business administration, healthcare administration, and related policy-oriented areas, depending on the host institution and YLP track.

The scholarship is generally considered fully funded. Support commonly includes tuition and other university fees, a monthly stipend for living costs, and international travel to and from Japan. Because YLP is a government-sponsored programme, students should check the current embassy or official programme guidance for the exact benefits and application route in their country.

Eligibility usually focuses on applicants with a strong academic background, professional experience, leadership potential, and support or nomination through the appropriate channel, often via a Japanese embassy, government office, or institutional recommendation. The programme is not a general open-call scholarship for all universities in Japan; instead, it is tied to designated YLP institutions and courses.

Applications are normally handled through official channels rather than a single universal portal. Interested candidates should review the current YLP information from MEXT and the Japanese diplomatic mission in their country, confirm which YLP track they are eligible for, and prepare academic records, recommendation materials, proof of professional experience, and language-related documentation where required.
