About this position
Project overview: The MOC Lab at the University of Padova is recruiting two doctoral researchers for the POLY4EV Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, an international consortium focused on polymer chemistry, tribology, thermal management and electric-vehicle technologies.
Research environment: The position is embedded in the Department of Chemical Sciences at the University of Padova and its MOC Laboratories, where the group develops advanced polymeric materials through molecular design and careful control of macromolecular composition, functionality and topology. The network connects European universities and industrial partners, giving the PhD researcher access to a collaborative and interdisciplinary research setting.
Research focus: The doctoral work centers on the design, synthesis and characterization of functional polymers for next-generation electric vehicles. The projects combine monomer design, controlled polymerization, macromolecular engineering and advanced polymer characterization in experimental organic and polymer chemistry.
- PhD 1: Architecturally controlled polymers for EV lubricants, focusing on branched and cyclic polymers and how composition and topology influence friction and wear in lubricant formulations.
- PhD 2: Thermoresponsive polymers for thermal management, focusing on polymers with tailored composition and topology and their relationship to heat-exchange performance.
Scientific perspective: The successful candidate will work on the molecular design of polymer additives and responsive polymer systems aimed at improving lubrication and thermal management in EV applications.

What's required
Candidates should hold, or expect to obtain, a Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about experimental research, with a strong interest in polymer chemistry, macromolecular synthesis and materials science. Previous experience in inorganic synthesis, monomer synthesis, polymer synthesis, controlled polymerization and/or polymer characterization is highly desirable, though not all of these areas are required. Applicants should have a solid chemical background, curiosity, creativity, motivation for hands-on laboratory research, good communication skills, the ability to work in a collaborative and international environment, and an excellent command of English.
