About this position
Onassis Scholarships for Hellenes support Greek students and eligible applicants of Greek background to pursue a full-time Master’s or PhD programme abroad. The award is provided by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, which has run the scheme since 1978, and this round offers up to 80 scholarships.
The scholarship is designed for study in a wide range of fields, including the humanities, social sciences, engineering, natural and agricultural sciences, and medicine and health sciences. It is intended for students undertaking an official qualification at master’s or doctoral level, with awards available for programmes abroad or, in some cases, partly abroad through an official Greek-foreign cooperation programme.
Funding includes a monthly grant and an additional lump sum to help with tuition and relocation, with extra support available for PhD-related printing and thesis publication costs. The programme also specifies different duration limits for Master’s and PhD study, with the possibility of extension for strong PhD progress.

What's required
Applicants must hold Greek citizenship, including Greek Cypriots and Greeks living abroad; non-Greek applicants may also apply if they have a degree from a Greek university, a Greek school-leaving certificate, and a valid residence permit for Greece. Applicants must be starting a full-time Master’s or PhD programme leading to an official qualification, and distance-learning programmes are excluded. The field of specialisation must fall within the listed areas for the round. For a Master’s, applicants must have been born in 1991 or later and hold a Bachelor’s degree with an average mark of at least 8.00/10 on the Greek scale or equivalent, unless being in the top 5% of the cohort compensates for a lower mark. For a PhD, applicants must have been born in 1986 or later and have a Master’s GPA of at least 8.50/10, unless top-5%-of-cohort status compensates. Applicants must hold an official certificate in the language of the degree programme at least at C1 level unless the university specifies otherwise. Male applicants must have completed military service or hold a valid deferment or exemption.
