About this position
Queen’s University Belfast is inviting applications for an anthropology PhD beginning in October 2027. The project explores how migrant and minority ethnic families navigate childcare and early-years support in Northern Ireland.
The research will examine relationships between families, communities and institutions, as well as how different understandings of care and childhood shape families’ experiences. The successful candidate will have scope to develop their own research questions and interests within this broader anthropological topic.
The project is designed around ethnographic methods, including creative and visual approaches. It welcomes original ideas and research strategies for understanding care, childhood, migration, community relationships and institutional support. The PhD offers an opportunity to conduct socially engaged research at the intersection of family life, childhood studies and contemporary anthropology.
The opportunity is associated with Lecturer in Anthropology Raluca Bianca Roman at Queen’s University Belfast. DfE studentship funding is subject to approval and competitive selection.
